The first edition of the IFFI campus took place from 27 May to 01 June 2013 during the week of the 22nd IFFI. From more than 60 applications , 25 young filmmakers aged 19 to 35 were selected. For the 25 participants and the 12 international experts it was a week of profound exploration of the medium of film. In particular the cross-disciplinary access of the participants and lecturers allowed a reflected exchange intensified by the familiar working environment. Within a short time contacts and networks were established , which had a wide impact beyond the boundaries of the campus itself.

Born 1970 in Zurich. Before she started shooting FORBIDDEN VOICES, her first feature documentary, she already had long experience as a director of television documentaries on Swiss television. For FORBIDDEN VOICES she won the Amnesty International Human Rights Prize at the Festival in San Sebastian in Spain recently.
Born 1977 in Friesach, grew up in Styria; studied journalism and ethnology in Vienna . After graduating in 1997, he worked as an NGO activist and freelance journalist, which led him to documentary film . His film „The Evolution of Violence“ was screened in the documentary film competition at the IFFI 2012.
Director, writer and musician. Study of Multimedia-Art at the FH Salzburg. From 1995 to 2001 Singer songwriter in the band Superformy, that landed an independent hit in Austria and Germany with the song “Pop wants to save the world.” Musical collaboration (amongst others) with Naked Lunch, Notwist, Monta, Nowhere Train. 2003 Foundation of the production company JENSEIDE together with Peter and Clemens Sihorsch Haslinger. Realisation of numerous music videos for bands like Naked Lunch, Kreisky, Monta and When the music’s over. Several award-winning image spots, respectively Webvirals for FM4, Museumsquartier Wien, Trumer Privatbrauerei, ERSTE BANK, Pez. The “Trumer Beer Machine” wins Gold at W3 Awards for Best Web-Viral and for Best Branded-Content-Viral. Jacob M. Kubizeks current documentary “Eine Möglichkeit zu Leben/Das Nowhere Train Tagebuch” is shown at the Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz.
Cine Tirol was founded in 1998 as a division of the national tourism organization Tirol Werbung. The main objectives of movie promotion activities by Cine Tirol are to internationally advertise Tyrol as Filmland, to professionally support filmmakers before and during the shooting in Tyrol by the Location Service and the Production Incentive and to generate positive effects in the economic, media and film-tourism environment. Meanwhile, over 400 film projects could be done in Tyrol – many from German-speaking countries, but also from many other European countries and overseas. Born in Mexico. After studying architecture and theater, he worked as a film critic for the newspapers “El Dia” and “El Gallo illustrado”. Between 1964 and 1967 he studied Film Studies in Paris at the IDHEC in the Musée de l’homme (with Jean Rouch). Back in Mexico, he founded the group “Cine 70” and shooted in 1972 his first film, “Reed – Mexico Insurgente”, based on the correspondent work of U.S. journalist John Reed about the revolutionary period in Mexico.
Paul Leduc belongs to a generation that made films under the name “New Latin American Cinema.” His colleagues are Fernando Birri, Miguel Littin, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Fernando Solanas and Jorge Sanjinés. This generation was inspired by the Cuban revolution and the Italian neorealism and was able to defy Hollywood.
Among his best known films is “Frida: Naturaleza Viva”, a portrait of the painter Frida Kahlo, released in 1986. To Paul Leduc is dedicated a Tribute at this year’s IFFI.
Born in Lans near Innsbruck. Cinematographer, director, producer and author of numerous documentaries, television films and movies. Camera for prominent directors like Michael Haneke, Luc Bondy, Stephen Gaghan, Amos Gitai and Wolfgang Glück.
Christian Berger is emeritus University Professor at the Vienna Film Academy, gives guest lectures at numerous international film schools, is a founding member of the Academy of Light Bartenbach and a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences.
Berger is also winner of countless awards, he recently received the Behind the Camera Award in Los Angeles as Cinematographer of the Year for “Das weiße Band”. In addition, he was honored with the Golden Camera 300 for outstanding contribution to the World Cinema at the 33 Manaki Brothers Film Festival in Bitola / Macedonia, the world’s oldest film festival, which prizes the artistic aspects of the visual work of cinematographers
. For the camera on “Das weiße Band” he was nominated for an Oscar in 2010.
Christian Berger developed the “Cine Reflect Lighting System CRLS” in collaboration with the light laboratory Bartenbach, which in addition to the development of new aesthetic options for the camera offers the actors and directors unprecedented flexibility and freedom. Inter alia Michael Haneke’s film “Das weiße Band” was shot with the CRLS.
Born in St. Petersburg. Since 1987 she operates at the Puskinskij Dom, the Institute of Literature of the Russian Academy. Since 1995 Marina Koreneva holds lectures at colleges and universities in St. Petersburg, as well as numerous guest lectures at Berkeley, Heidelberg, Helsinki, Mainz and Germersheim. In addition to research- and cultural projects to literary and cultural relations between Russia and the German-speaking Areas, Marina Koreneva was also a screenwriter in various film projects. Amongst others she worked with the Russian director Aleksandr Sokurov and German directors like Max Färberböck and Leander Hausmann. In 2001 she received the Award of the Federal Chancellery of the Republic of Austria for the performance as a translator and cultural mediator
. In 1999 she won the award for Best Screenplay at the International Film Festival in Cannes for “FAUST”. The book was adapted by Aleksandr Sokurov in 2011 and received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival.
Born in Salzburg. Study of Communication Studies and German Philology. From 1996 to 2000 assistant director at theaters in Austria and Germany.
Trained to a script consultant through material development programs (including “Step by Step” 2003) and screenwriter seminars, amongst others with Don Bohlinger, Oliver Schütte, Sabine Pochhammer, Dagmar Benke and Phil Parker. Since 2000 free script editor, since 2003 script consultant in Vienna, inter alia for Satel Film, Mona Film, Lotus Film, Drehbuchforum Wien. Ines Häufler teaches at Salzburg University and the Fachhochschule St. Pölten. The film “Talea” by Catherine Mückstein, which received the Saarland Prime Minister Award at the Film Festival Max Ophüls Prize 2013, was accompanied dramatically by Ines Häufler, as well as “The Fifth Season” by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth. “The Fifth Season” was shown in the main competition at the International Film Festival in Venice, 2012.
Born in Moscow. Eduardo del Llano is a Cuban writer, director and screenwriter. In the 1980s he founded the theater- and literary group NOS Y OTROS. As a writer he worked already with Jorge Goldenberg, Tom Abrams and Walter Bernstein. From 1990 to 1995 he taught Latin American Art History and History at the University of Havana. In addition to numerous awards at international film festivals, he received 1998 the Screenplay Award at the Sundance Festival for the screenplay of “La Vida es Silbar”, which also won the Goya Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2000.
2003 Eduardo del Llano was a jury member at the International Film Festival Innsbruck. Since 2004 del Llano is active as a director. In addition to a series of short films that were shown at international film festivals, he received in 2012 the prize for Best Screenplay and Best Film Music at the Festival de Gramado, Brazil, for his first feature film “Vinci”.
Born in Kinshasa/Congo, lives in Europe and has taught at many locations around the world, including New York University. He is a writer, director and producer, and is particularly concerned with how Blacks are perceived in Western cinema and television. He has made documentaries, short films and feature films that received much international attention. He is a founding member and president of the “Guild of African Filmmakers and Producers” and recently founded a film studio in Kinshasa, “La Manufacture de l’Imaginaire”. The studio serves as a platform and offers young Filmtalents in Congo the possibility to express their ideas. In 2007 he won the award for Best Feature Film at the 16th International Film Festival Innsbruck.
Born in Cameroon, living in France since 1977. For over 20 years Jean-Marie Teno shoots documentaries and feature films about the colonial and post-colonial history of Africa. 10 years ago the IFFI already dedicated him a retrospective, since he is considered one of the great African documentary filmmakers. He was invited as Artist in Residence at the Pacific Film Archive of the University of California, Berkeley, and has taught at several universities, most recently as Copeland Fellow at Amherst College, Massachusetts . Among many other awards in Berlin, Toronto, Yamagata, Visions du Reel, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Leipzig, San Francisco and London, in2012 he won the prize for Best Documentary at the 21st International Film Festival Innsbruck for “Lieux Saints”.
Born in Argentina, studied with Alexander Kluge and Edgar Reitz. Jeanine Meerapfel grew up in Argentina as the daughter of German Jewish refugees. In 1964 she moved to Germany and studied with a DAAD scholarship from 1964 to 1968 at the Institute for Film Design of the College of Design in Ulm. From 1970 to 1980 Meerapfel worked as a film critic and led film seminars in Ulm and at various Goethe Institutes. In 1981, she made her feature film debut with “Malou”, which until 2001 was followed by ten films.
In 1984 she was a member of the jury of the Berlin Film Festival. In 1990 Meerapfel received a professorship (with emphasis on directing documentaries and feature films) at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. She is a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
For her debut feature film “Malou” (1980) she received in San Sebastian and Chicago the top prize and at Cannes the Award of the International Critics, FIPRESCI. Her masterpiece “La Amiga” was in 1988 Argentine Oscar nominee. The IFFI dedicated her 2012 a retrospective and granted her the Honorary Award for lifetime achievement. Her current film, “The German friend,” will have its Austrian premiere at this year`s International Film Festival Innsbruck. During the IFFI Campus she will hold, together with the Greek composer Floros Floridis, a master class about sound and music in film.
